Helmet Inspection Certification

We offer Flight Helmet Inspection Certification due to a high number of requests from our customers to ensure that their helmets are completely functional and flight-ready. We recommend a certified inspection annually on all aviation helmets because personal protective equipment is a safety item. During the inspection process, it may be recommended that the helmet receives a refurbishment. Refurbs are a separate service that brings the helmet back to “like new” condition.

Unlike helmets designed for other purposes, helicopter and flight helmets should absorb a large amount of the impact during an event. The energy-absorbing liner should be replaced as needed because once the liner has compressed that location of the liner cannot absorb any more energy. Normal wear and placing the helmet down on its crown have detrimental effects on the liner. We recommend replacing the liner every time we inspect a helmet.

Flight Helmet Inspection Certification

We recommended that before each flight, the pilot should check the assembly of the helmet to ensure that it is usable and in good working order. This inspection can include:

1. The helmet, liners, and earcup assemblies were properly fitted.
2. Chinstrap and nape brace are correctly balanced, and the retention assembly is tightly fixed to the helmet.
3. The visor(s) function properly, are clean and free from cracks or scratches.
4. All communication components are installed properly, and the earphones and microphones are operating properly.
5. The overall helmet status was checked for serviceability.

Inspection Postflight
Upon every flight, the user should notice any malfunction of the part or damage to the helmet caused by operative use. Its components should be replaced accordingly.

Periodic Analysis
It is the responsibility of users to ensure that their helmet is clean and that all components work well. Periodic (scheduled) inspections should be conducted at a minimum annual or as required by an adequately trained person.

Inspection By a Specialist
A technically trained individual can evaluate any government-owned flight helmet suspected of impact (i.e. struck by a rock or dropped), or other potentially damaging incidents. After an aircraft crash or possible incident, the NBC AMD Investigator-in-Charge can decide whether a special inspection is needed for the flight helmets involved.

We will complete the service as stated in the estimate after we receive the helmet and the PO is processed. We will return the helmet as soon as possible. If there are questions about setting up a maintenance schedule please contact us and we will happily assist.

During the flight helmet inspection certification process, the certified technician will:

• Visually Inspect the Underside of the Shell
• Visually Inspect for any Defective Parts
• Use Testing Equipment on all Communication Elements
• Ensure Proper Operation of all Moving Components
• Visually Inspect Visor Lens for Scratches and Optical Clarity
• Visually Inspect all Soft Goods for Non-Hygienic Circumstances
• Write and Send an Estimate of their Recommendations
